SUNSTAR Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 25 July 2025

SUNSTAR is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities across all our digital platforms. We continuously work to improve the user experience for everyone and to apply relevant accessibility standards in alignment with the European Accessibility Act.

Compliance Status

SUNSTAR’s websites and digital services aim to conform to:

  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA

  • EN 301 549 accessibility requirements

Currently, our website domain https://www.sunstargum.com/ is:

Partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA due to the issues identified in the section below.

Non-accessible Content

We are aware that some areas of our digital properties do not yet meet full accessibility standards.  For a detailed list of known issues and target resolution dates, please visit our SUNSTAR Accessibility Roadmap.

We are actively working to resolve these issues as part of our ongoing digital accessibility program.

Disproportionate Burden

Updating the text of all existing Call-to-Action (CTA) buttons on our platforms to make them sufficiently descriptive would require revising a very high number of elements — approximately 1,400 CTA buttons on English-version site for Oral Care Professionals.

Many of these elements originate from legacy content developed under an earlier version of our Content Management System (AEM On-premise version 6.5).

As corrections to CTA button text must be carried out manually, addressing all instances would involve long lead times and high resource costs relative to current capacity.

For these reasons, a complete adjustment in the short term is not feasible. However, we will continue to progressively update the most important buttons and educate content creators on accessibility requirements for CTA button text as part of our ongoing efforts.

Future Improvements

We are committed to achieving full WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.

Please visit our SUNSTAR Accessibility Roadmap for the most up-to-date information on progress and estimated resolution dates.

Accessibility testing and improvements are embedded in our ongoing development cycle.

Accessibility of the GUM Playbrush App and GUM Smart App

Our mobile apps, GUM Playbrush and GUM Smart, currently do not fully meet the accessibility requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.

Following an internal self-assessment using tools such as Android Accessibility Scanner and screen reader testing (VoiceOver and TalkBack), we have identified several critical and moderate accessibility issues, including:

  • The apps are not currently compatible with screen readers, making them inaccessible to blind or visually impaired users.

The primary reason for these limitations is the use of the Unity development platform, which does not natively support accessibility features on iOS or Android. Unity lacks built-in compatibility with screen readers, native controls, and assistive technologies. Implementing accessibility support would require third-party plugins and substantial custom development, which currently exceeds our available resources.
  • The apps do not support iOS system accessibility settings such as Larger Text, Increased Contrast, Bold Text or Reduced Transparency.
  • Several UI elements contain unexposed or unreadable text that is not accessible through assistive technologies.
  • Some text contrast and layout issues limit readability for users with low vision.

Disproportionate Burden

We acknowledge these limitations and are committed to making our digital products more inclusive. However, we have determined that fixing all the above accessibility issues within our current technical, financial, and organizational resources would impose a disproportionate burden on our company at this time, as defined under Article 5 of the EU Web Accessibility Directive.

This determination is based on:

  • The significant development effort required to redesign major parts of the app for compatibility with assistive technologies such as screen readers.

  • The current limitations of our development resources, which are prioritized toward essential functionality and maintenance.

  • The complexity involved in adapting the existing app architecture to fully support dynamic accessibility features on both iOS and Android platforms.

We are continuously reviewing this situation and plan to reassess the burden annually or when significant updates to the app are made. If you experience difficulty accessing any part of the app or need assistance, please contact us at: [accessibility@sunstar.com]
